Trying To Conceive After Loss

A loss of a baby changes you, this we know.  For many it also changes the way we view and feel during pregnancy. You may find yourself worrying for other pregnant women, being very anxious about trying to have another baby.

One of the biggest worries in pregnancy after loss is that something like the last time would happen.  If you lost a baby do to early miscarriage with out a known cause, you can ask your doctor to preform a blood test to find your progesterone levels and make sure they are in a safe range.

Parents who had a late-miscarriage:
If no cause was found, it can be comforting to ask for additional early ultrasounds.  Also to have your last pregnancy reviewed, to see if there is any more information to be found.

Late-Miscarriage or Stillbirth cause by Early Labor...
Talk to your doctor about a cervical stitch if you had an incomplete cervix.  Before you try to get pregnant you and your spouse should talk about being on bed/pelvic rest for the majority of the pregnancy.  Many women place their selves on bed rest even when the doctor doesn't find it necessary.  This is your baby, you and your family have to do what you feel is best for baby.

If you had a medical cause or condition cause the loss of your baby...
Talk to your doctor to learn if it is something that has a chance of reoccurring, you may also seek out or ask for a referral to a geneticist or specialist.

Trying to get pregnant after losing a baby to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome...
You may not feel as anxious during pregnancy, but very much after baby is born.  We know there is more research that needs to be done in this area.  When you have another child, you may never want to take your eyes off them, and have trouble sleeping.  Some things you may find comforting to try is to use a movement monitor.  We highly suggest using an Angel Care Movement Monitor.  Visit their website for more information, follow the safety steps to lowering the risk of SIDs.  Since doctors do not fully understand, what cause's SIDs these steps are not 100%, but we know following the preventive steps is a start.

Most of this is out of our control.  Some things we find helpful, is doing all you can do to have a healthy pregnancy.  Stay hydrated, eat healthy, begin taking prenatal vitamins even months before you are to being trying to get pregnant. Also helpful in preventing loss from interuterian infection/chorioamnionitis eat yogurt with live active cultures frequently, your whole pregnancy to help maintain a healthy PH balance.  This is especially important if you happen to be on antibiotics at all.

Once you are pregnant, speak to your doctor about monitoring and extra ultrasounds.  Find a doctor you feel will do all they can to take you and your baby's life seriously, and help you do what is best to keep  baby healthy.  Find someone to talk to about your concerns (doctors, friends, family, therapist, support group, email us), and over all Pray.  Turn to God and give your worries to him as we feel he and Christ and the ones who will be able to comfort you the most. We all get confused, sad, and just feel lost after we have lost a baby.  You are not alone. Please reach out and find support.  You can get through this. Love to you all and your families as you try to conceive.
