Cremation: This way might help you feel close to baby. You can keep their ashes, or scatter them in a special place. They make many specialized urns for babies. There is also teddy bears made to hold tiny urns so you can "hold" them.
*In some cases you can see baby again before they are cremated. You can show the funeral home a photo of baby from the day you had them and ask if there has been much of a physical change, before you decide. If you do chose to see baby you may want to bring some extra clothing or a thick blanket. As they may have some fluid release (you may have noticed in the hospital). The younger gestation the baby, the more likely it is that they will have physical changes in appearance.
Viewing: This can be done privately or in the form of a small funeral. If in the funeral form it may be best to have a limited time of the casket being open, so you are always close-by while it is. In some places you can also hold the viewing in the comfort of your own home.
Burial: You can have a burial at a regular cemetery, close to other family members or some have a baby specific area if you would like. You do not have to place a head stone right away. There is some things to think about before choosing burial. Some families find it hard if they move out of state, not to be able to visit or plant flowers often.
Celebration of Life, Memorial Service, Funeral:
Some families just decide between cremation or burial but you can also hold a "celebration of life". You can have one at the funeral home, or yours or a family members home. This gives a way for friends and family to see you and offer support.
