Keeping "Keepsakes" Safe

Protecting mementos: The items we have of our baby's are so special, and it is very important to keep them safe. Here are some ways to protect them, while still being able to display and enjoy them.

Hand and Foot prints
These should be photo copied to be duplicated and also kept as a digital copy.
Photos
Print photos out to have a hard copy for your memory box or scrape book. Store on a back up memory card. Also Store using an online photo site (Snapfish, Shutterfly, Facebook, or in cloud storage). do this for all the photos you have of your baby, especially ones on your phone! as they sometimes break or get dropped in water.

                                                           Stuffed Animals
Often families take these out, or use as a prop in family photos, or use to cuddle.  If this is one that your baby actually held and is taken out of the house, sew on a tag that says "if lost please contact" with you email address.

or purchase another of the same stuffed animal, and keep the one baby held in a safe place (or make a mark on originals tag with permanent marker or cut off tag, to be able to tell them apart).  If you would like to have a duplicate, do it as soon as you can.  Specific stuffed animals are only manufactured for a period of time and you might have trouble locating the same one later on.

Using a Fire Proof Safe
This might sound expensive or large, but its not. You can find these offered by online retailers, also at many department stores websites. They make them in a variety of sizes. If you made duplicates of things like hand and foot print, you can keep originals in your safe.  If you have a small memory box you view on occasion, it can also be stored in here. If you go on Vacation or are out of town, you can also place all baby's belongings in the safe to protect them while you are away.

share with other Angel Baby families, to help them find ways of keeping these tiny treasures safe.  We wrote this after reading of a family who lost many items in a fire, and a case where baby's ONLY photos were erased by mistake.

We invite you to take a look around our site, specifically our Remembering Baby/Making Keepsakes area.
